For many students, preparing for the nursing board exams is a grueling process filled with sleepless nights, self-doubt, and mental exhaustion. But for Zynarik Alzola Tabelisma, RN, who ranked Top 3 in the May 2024 Philippine Nursing Licensure Exam (PNLE), the journey was not just about hard work—it was a testament to faith, resilience, and divine intervention.
Tabelisma’s story is not the conventional tale of a topnotcher who spent countless hours studying. Instead, it’s a story of overcoming procrastination, battling personal struggles, and ultimately relying on faith to achieve success.
A Rocky Start: The Challenges Before the Exam
After graduating, Tabelisma initially planned to study rigorously for the board exams. However, procrastination and erratic sleep patterns got in the way. For nearly five months, the struggle to stick to a study routine became a major hurdle. Instead of maximizing review time, distractions took over, leading to anxiety as the exam date drew closer. To make matters worse, only five out of more than 100 topics were thoroughly reviewed in the final days before the exam. This left Tabelisma feeling unprepared and vulnerable—a nightmare for any aspiring board passer.
A Test of Faith Amidst Uncertainty
During the exams, another unexpected challenge arose. On the first day, exhaustion took over, and Tabelisma fell asleep mid-exam. Waking up with only 15 minutes left and 40 items unanswered, panic set in. Rushing to finish, there were even erasures on the answer sheet, which seemed to seal the fate of the results.
The aftermath was filled with frustration and doubt. “I prayed, I read my Bible, I remained faithful—so why did this happen?” Tabelisma recalled questioning. It felt as if all efforts were in vain, and the possibility of ranking among the top seemed out of reach.
God’s Faithfulness: A Victory Beyond Expectations
Despite the setbacks, faith remained unshaken. And in a turn of events that can only be described as miraculous, Tabelisma emerged as the Top 3 PNLE passer. Looking back, the journey was far from perfect, but that imperfection became the greatest testimony. “It is in our weaknesses that the Lord’s glory shines the brightest,” Tabelisma shared.
This achievement serves as a reminder that success isn’t always about having the perfect study plan or being 100% prepared—it’s about trust, perseverance, and allowing God to work through our limitations.
Tabelisma’s story resonates with thousands of students who feel unprepared or doubtful about their future. This success is a testament that even in moments of uncertainty, faith can move mountains.
To every aspiring nurse: Study hard, do your best, but most importantly—trust the process, trust in yourself, and trust in God.
“This is all for the glory of the Lord! His name be praised forever and ever!”
